Delhi Red Fort on Banknote

Red Fort, also known as 'Lal Qila', or 'Qila-e-Mubarak' is a historical fort in Old Delhi. The Fort was built by the Fifth Mughal Emperor of India, Emperor Shah Jahan when he decided to shift his capital from Agra to Delhi. The design of Red Fort was designed by Ustad Ahmad Lahori, who had also designed the Taj Mahal. The fort represents the peak in Mughal architecture under Shah Jahan and combines Persianate palace architecture with Indian traditions.The Red Fort of Delhi represents the art and architecture of the Mughal Empire; It is a mixture of various local building traditions such as Persian, Timurid and Hindu architecture.
The Reserve Bank of India issued this 500 Indian Rupees Banknote that depicts Red Fort in 2016. They are currently still in circulation.
