Myanmar is bordered by Bangladesh and India to its northwest, China to its northeast, Laos and Thailand to its east and southeast, and the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal to its south and southwest. It is the largest country in Mainland Southeast Asia and the 10th largest in Asia by area.

The 1 Kyat note of Myanmar features a mythological lion which is partly lion and part griffin. This is depicted in Burmese iconography and Myanmar architecture. It is used as pair of guardians flanking the entrances of Buddhist pagodas and or Buddhist monasteries. It is one of the most recognizable cultural symbols of Myanmar. The reverse side of the banknote depicts a scenario of the famous Kandawgyi Lake.

The kyat is the currency of Myanmar. The term kyat derives from the ancient Burmese kyattha unit.
