Banknote of the Year 2018

The IBNS 'Bank Note of the Year is awarded to a banknote issued during the preceding year and it is judged on artistic merit, design, and security features. The winning entry of 2018, for notes issued during 2017, is a 10 dollars note from Canada. This is the fifth consecutive polymer containing a note to win the IBNS Bank Note of the Year Award.

The face of the note features the portrait of social justice icon Viola Desmond while the back depicts the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Desmond fought for racial equality across Canada and is the first Canadian woman to appear on a banknote. The note has a distinct purple color.

The reverse features eagle feather by maple leaf a bilingual excerpt from the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and Canada's Human Rights Museum in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It is also the first museum in the world solely dedicated to the evolution, celebration, and future of human rights. It aims to inspire and promote respect for others while encouraging reflection and dialogue about human rights.
