Today First Indian Satellite 'Aryabhata' launched in 1975

Aryabhata was the first Indian Satellite, named after famous Indian astronomer Aryabhata. Aryabhata was a prominent Indian astronomer and mathematician of the 5th century CE. This satellite was built by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and launched by the Soviet Union as a part of the Soviet Interkosmos program.It was launched from Kapustin Yar, a Russian rocket launch and development site in Astrakhan Oblast, using a Kosmos-3M launch vehicle. Satellite Aryabhata was created, with the aim of experimenting with X-ray astronomy, and solar physics.
The government of India issued a commemorative stamp on satellite Aryabhata in 1975.
