The IBNS 'Bank Note of the Year is awarded to a banknote issued during the preceding year and it is judged on artistic merit, design, and security features. The winning entry of 2011, for notes issued during 2010, is a 10,000 Tenge denomination Kazakhstani note.
The note was released on 4 July 2011 to commemorate 20 years of Independence for the Republic of Kazakhstan. The stunning design, predominantly in dark blue-violet features the “Kazak Eli” monument with flying birds in a vertical format on the face of the banknote.
The horizontal format reverse side highlights the Presidential Palace in the new capital city of Astana and a map of the country. A full-color image of this and other Kazakh banknotes can be viewed on the National Bank’s website.
