Indian society is an amalgamation of various traditional and authentic practices. Its essence can be seen in the heritage of the past which is a national treasure today. But it’s not necessary that it have to be larger than life to become the warmest memories of a forgotten time.

India post has issued a set of 12 stamps to celebrate New Year in 2017. The above shown fifth stamp is a part of this mixed sheet, which can evoke a sense of pride in every Indian. This stamp is chosen with a perspective to reflect the glory and magnificence of Indian culture and heritage.

This fifth stamp of this sheetlet depicts a Sarota, it’s a scissor-like cutter made of metal. It is traditionally used to cut Areca nut into small pieces to chew along with betel leaves. Sarota is found in many shapes and sizes and illustrated with different designs and jewels in different parts of the Country.

This beautiful instrument was used in every household from a by-gone time.
