The Reserve Bank of Malawi is going to revise its new family of notes so that they are more "blind-friendly". According to the Malawi Union of the Blind, the current notes have raised dots to aid in recognition of the denominations, but the dots are too small to be useful. Malawi is a landlocked country in southeastern Africa, bordered by Zambia to the northwest, Tanzania to the northeast, and Mozambique to the south, southwest, and southeast.

The etymology of ‘ Kwacha ’ derives from the Chinyanja or Chichewa word meaning ‘it has dawned’. The kwacha was replaced by the Malawian pound in 1971 at a rate of two kwacha to one pound. The front side of the banknote features, Reserve Bank of Malawi headquarters at Lilongwe; Inkosiya Makhosi M’mbelwa II (Lazalo MkhuzoJere), and the backside of the banknote features, Domasi Teachers Training College building and tree; stacks of books and mortarboard.
