The third series of banknotes [1979-1982] issued 1 cedi in green color shade. It portraits a young man and Basket weaver. This series was legal tender till 2007.

The culture of basket weaving is as old as human civilization. It involves craft and art both. Basket weaving is made out of waste available resources such as baskets, mats, mesh bags, or furniture. It can be prepared by the available natural resources which can be bend to the desired shape such as pine, straw, willow, oak, wisteria, forsythia, vines, stems, animal hair, hides, grasses, thread, and fine wooden splints.

The earliest trace of basketry comes from the Pre-Pottery Neolithic phases of Tell SabiAbyad II and Catalhoyuk. The oldest known baskets have been carbon-dated to between 10-12 thousand years ago. But baskets can be seen in cave paintings which are much ancient than the found oldest baskets.
