Kashmir Sultanate ruler Mirza Doghlat

Mirza Muhammad Haidar Doghlat Bet was a ruler of Kashmir Sultanate. He was a Chagatai Turco-Mongol military general, and a historical writer. He sat on the throne of Kashmir Sultanate in the year 1546 CE and ruled it until 1550 CE.

In the year 1533, for the first time, he campaigned in Kashmir on behalf of Sultan Said Khan, of Kashgar. However, he was driven out of Kashmir by Kamran Mirza, the second son of Mughal Emperor Babur. Later, be made a treaty with the local sultanates and with the Kashmiris.

In the year 1540, Mirza Doghlat returned back for Mughal Emperor Humayun. This was a time when Humayun defeated at Battle of Kanauj by Sher Shah Suri. When Mirza Doghlat arrived in Kashmir, he was installed as a sultan by Shah Mir Dynasty ruler Nazuk Shah. In the year 1546, when Humayun recovered Kabul, Mirza Doghlat removed Nazuk Shah and struck coins in the name of Mughal Emperor Humayun. Mirza Doghlat died in the year 1550 in the battle with Kashmiris.

This silver square sasnu was issued by Mirza Doghlat in the name of Mughal Emperor Humayun. The weight of this silver sasnu is around 6.06g. The obverse of this coin is inscribed with the name of the title of Mughal Emperor Humayun. The reverse of this coin is inscribed with the mint name Kashmir.
