Serial number on one rupee banknote printed in red Ink

Coin of King George VI with date 1940 was depicted on the One rupee Banknote. The last issue of this series was Issues after independence. Its serial number was printed in red ink to distinguish between the pre and post-independence issues.

This issue is seen with fractional Prefix letters D and E over number. Prefix D is very scarce and is difficult to obtain in high grades. Prefix E is very rare and was only issued in very limited numbers.

The obverse of this banknote illustrates GOVERNMENT OF INDIA in the centre. Text "ONE RUPEE 1" is printed on the centre panel. The numeral one is seen in top corners. One rupee coin with the portrait of King George VI at the top left. Text ONE RUPEE 1 below the serial number.

The reverse side depicts "GRI" and crown on the watermark window. GOVERNMENT OF INDIA is printed at the centre. Numeral one is seen on the top corners only. Text 1 ONE RUPEE is printed on lower left. Language panel located at the centre. The reverse of silver One Rupee coin dated 1940.
