Coin collectors can also enjoy collecting stamps. Ancient coins appear on series of stamps issued by various countries.Crete republic issued series of stamps with different denomination such as 1lipton, 5, 20, 25 lepta, 1drachma etc. Each of these stamps depicts either obverse or reverse side of ancient coins depicting gods and goddesses and mythological figures.
The stamps of Greece are particularly artistic. These stamps show the varied nature of Greek Coinage. The most distinctive feature of Greek stamp is that they depict both obverse and reverse sides of the coins. The Greek stamps comes in different denominations such as 2 – 5 Drachma and many more.
Shortly after its creation, Israel depicted new set of stamps depicts coins from the Jewish War and the revolt against Rome. The second series of coin stamps was issued in denominations of 3, 5, 10, 15, 30 and 50 prutot. The most common stamp of Israel depicts an amphora surrounded by the Hebrew inscription “year two of the freedom of Israel”.
Stamps of Italy depicting Ancient coins are surprisingly less in number considering Italy’s diverse Coinage. Italy issued the 1953-4 definitive series in eight values. The design is a medallion with a female head facing left.
