Princely State of Cambay (Khambhat)

Cambay also knew as Kambay or Khambhat was a Princely State during the British rule in India; it is located at the head of the Gulf of Cambay. The name is said to be derived from Khambhat or stambha-tirth which was the pool of Mahadeo. In 1298 it was described as one of the richest towns in India. Probably it is the only state in the Kaira (Presently Kheda) Agency of Gujarat of Bombay Presidency; later in the year 1937, it was merged with Baroda and Gujarat States Agency.

This silver rupee was issued by an anonymous ruler, Probably it was issued during the reign of Najm al-Daula Ja'afar Mumin Khan II or Fateh Ali Khan. The weight of this coin is around 11.4g, it was issued in the name of Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II. The obverse of this coin is inscribed with the name and title of Shah Alam II. The reverse of this coin is inscribed with the mint name.
