This year this festival falls on January the 2nd.Nyin long can be translated from the Dzongkha language as “return of the sun”. This day is believed to be the most auspicious day of the year. Nyinlog is one of sixteen public holidays celebrated in Bhutan. The people of Bhutan celebrate Nyinlog with feasting and archery.
The stamp shown above is a 3ch stamp of the year 1965 and depicts the national sport of the country i.e. Archery. The stamp shows an archer clad in traditional Bhutanese Costumes on the background of Himalayan Mountain range holding a bow and arrows.
Bhutanese farmers may feel some chagrin on this day because from the winter solstice the days are going to get longer and longer which means more and more work in the fields.
