During the 1st Century AD, the southwest region of India was ruled by the Kuras; they had ruled this region between 30 BC to 65AD. The Kuras was having two major powers Brahmapuri and Madhavpur.

The Kuras came into an account with their in the epigraph and through the numismatic source. During the early historical period, they find their base Kolhapur in Maharashtra.

All the coins issued by Kuras were of lead, the obverse of this coin depicts bow and arrow along with the Brahmi legend. The reverse side of this coin depicts Chaitya, a tree in railing and river symbol. This quarter lead unit was issued by Gotamiputra Vilvayakura of Kuras of Kolhapur. The obverse of this coin depicts bow and arrow in a center with the Brahmi legend around. The reverse of this coin depicts Tree in the railing and five arched hills.
