The United States of America had issued this commemorative half dollar with the theme of Pilgrim in the year 1920. This commemorative half dollar was issued to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the landing of the Mayflower.
The word Pilgrim is derived from the Latin word peregrines which traveler. It is said that the Pilgrim is the one who had come from afar and had joined a journey to a holy place. In Christianity, the concept of Pilgrim and pilgrimage may refer to the inner path of the spiritual aspirant from misery to grace. It may also refer to one’s personal experience of life in the world.
The obverse of this coin depicts the portrait of pilgrim facing towards left with a Bible in his hand. The reverse of this coin depicts the Mayflower, the ship that brought the pilgrims to Massachusetts.
