2019-11-30 Sat
The coin shown above is the One Penny issued by Nigeria before Nigeria was liberated from the British Rule. The coin was issued and minted by the Royal Mint, London in the year 1959.Canceled hub impression on the reverse. It is a common practice to engrave or file across on the dies to destroy or cancel them when they were worn down or not suitable for striking coins. In this case, it looks like a canceled hub has been used to strike the reverse.
The obverse of the coin depicts a central hole with Solomon's seal (six-pointed "Star of David"), consisting of two equilateral triangles interlaced with FEDERATION OF NIGERIA inscribed above and the date 1959 below.
The reverse of the coin depicts An imperial crown above a central circular hole with a scroll ornament to right and left, the denomination ONE PENNY below the coin; the monarch's legend QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND around the corner the denomination in Arabic below the hole in the center.
