Gold Gadyan of Kadambas of Goa

The Kadambas of Goa were the dynasty who had ruled Goa in the last classical period of the Indian subcontinent from 10th to 14th century CE. During their rule they took over the territories of Silaharas and ruled it from Chandor, later they made their capital as Gopakapattana. According to the one of the Talagunda inscription found in Shimoga in Karnataka, it has found that the Kadambas were if Brahmin origin and were the descended of Mayurasharma. The Mayursharma was the Kannada scholar and was a native of Talagunda (Today in modern Shimoga district). He is considered as a founder of the Kadamba kingdom of Banvashi.

This gold Gadyan which weighs around 3.75 g was issued from Kadambas of Goa. The obverse of this coin depicts standing Loin facing towards the left in front of Temple within the dotted circle. The reverse of this coin depicts Trishul with Devnagari legend “Sri Malaha/ ramari” in Two lines, within a circle.
