Buland Darwaza featured on a stamp

Buland Darwaza also is known as the “Door of Victory” or “Gate of Magnificence” is the highest gateway in the world. This mammoth monument was built during the period of Mughal Emperor Akbar to commemorate his victory over Gujarat.The colossal monument that forms the main entrance of the palace at Fatehpur Sikri stands as a fine example of the Mughal architecture. It is made of the magnificence of red and buff sandstone and decorated by carving and inlaying of white and black marble.
The gate is an imposing construction and stands almost 43 feet tall on a majestic pedestal and is 54 feet above the ground. One has to climb 42 steps in order to reach the gate. There are verses from the Holy Quran carved in beautiful calligraphy that can be seen on the pillars at the front.
To commemorate this one of the greatest Indian monument, India Postal Department has issued 10 Rupees postage stamp on 19th October 2019.
