Canada issued its first 3D coin named 2017 $20 Three-Dimensional Breaching Whale 1 oz. Silver Coin. The coin is made of one ounce of 99.99% pure silver and has a mintage limit of 7,500. A new printing and embossing technique called thermoforming process was used to create a 3D whale.

Designed by the Canadian Artist, Matt Bowen the reverse features a blue coloured humpback whale launching itself off the surface of the coin. A lighthouse and the sea is depicted in the background. Other inscriptions include 2017, CANADA, 20 DOLLARS, and ‘mb’ for the artist’s initials.

The obverse features Susanna Blunt’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with the inscriptions ELIZABETH II and D G REGINA.
