Marge Simpson Featured on Latest Perth Mint Coins

Perth Mint issued a new 99.99% pure silver coin dedicated to the famous cartoon character, Marge Simpson of Simpson Family. 5,000 such coins have been struck as legal tender for the Government of Tuvalu. Designed by Matt Groening, the reverse side depicts a coloured picture of Marge Simpson in her kitchen. It also features the mintmark of Perth Mint – “P” and the designer’s signature. The obverse side depicts an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank-Broadley along with other inscriptions such as denomination, weight, fineness and year of issue. Every coin is packaged in an acrylic case which is then placed inside a specially designed shipper along with the numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The 1 Dollar (TVD) Proof coin has a diameter of 40.60 millimetres, weighs 31.107 grams and is 3.21 mm thick.

The Simpson family was aired as 30-seconders during The Tracey Ullman Show in 1987. It was later converted to half-hour series in 1989 and became an instant hit. Today, the show has an audience in 60 countries and it is translated into 20 languages. It became a symbol of pop-culture and was liked by everyone. It became the longest-running scripted show in the history of Television in 2018.
