The Royal Mint issued a new commemorative Silver Penny coin to welcome the newest member of the Royal Family, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The obverse side depicts a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Jody Clark. The reverse side shows a heavy vertically-closing gate called portcullis, which is found on medieval forts. The coin is struck using 3.564 grams of .925 fine silver in Brilliant Uncirculated finish. It has a diameter of 20.32 millimetres and can be bought for £15 each.
Archie Harrison was born to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on 6th May 2019. There has been a tradition of crossing a baby’s palm with silver to wish the newborn baby wealth and good health. The coin release is a similar symbolic gesture by the Royal Mint.
