First Issue of the New Republic of Ivory Coast

First Issue of the New Republic of Ivory Coast was brought in the circulation on 1st October 1959. Ivory Coast or Côte d'Ivoire is a country in West Africa established as a French colony in 1893 and becoming independent in 1960. A set of three stamps on 1 October 1959 turned out to be the first issue of the new republic went on sale. Stamps came with the denomination of 10 francs, 25 francs, and 30 francs as a new republic series. They depict an African Elephant (Loxodonta africana) amidst green meadow in the centre. The stamps are inscribed with “REPUBLIQUE DU (Republic Of)” at the top and “COTE D’IVOIRE (Ivory Coast)” at the bottom.
