2018-12-28 Fri
On 11th December, Azerbaijan released a postage stamp to commemorate the 25th anniversary of UNICEF’s partnership with the country. Several esteemed leaders from various departments of the Government and UNICEF were present during the launch ceremony. The stamp features a silhouette of a child under an umbrella held by an adult. A limited number of these stamps can be purchased from post offices and branches of Azermarka.Over the last 25 years, UNICEF has been working to provide equal opportunities to every child of the young nation by respecting their basic rights. The organisation has worked in collaboration with the government, international partners, civil society, the private sector, and local communities to uplift the conditions of children and women in the country. Some of these initiatives include making Azerbaijan polio-free, fighting other preventable diseases, introducing universal iodisation of salt, increasing primary school enrolment rates to more than 90 per cent, introducing the first school preparedness programme for five-year-old children, and reducing the number of children living in institutions by half.
