2018-12-22 Sat

Stack’s Bowers Galleries will be offering several interesting banknotes at the New York International Numismatic Convention from 10th to 12th 2019 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City. A rare 1870 Two Dollar note graded PMG VG-10 will be offered at an estimated value of $5,000 to $7,000.

The design found on this 2 Dollar Canadian note is rare to find in any grade. The obverse features General Wolfe, General Montcalm, an arched text reading “Dominion of Canada” with a vignette depicting an Indian Chief and a 4-4-0 steam train in the background. The lower side has a beautiful 2-TWO-2 green-coloured protector. The reverse depicts 2 counters and the texts PAYABLE AT, MONTREAL. The note is in great condition and is heavily circulated. Two such notes have a similar grading while two others are graded finer at a Fine 15 and Very Fine 20 grade.

Canadian banknotes like rare 1935 pieces and the 1907 Imperial Bank $50 Specimen from Collection of Dr. James Eustace Bizzell are also going to be offered. Several interesting Brazilian and Asian Banknotes are also up for auction. A 1916 Straits Settlements 100 Dollar note and 1925 date are some of the highlights.
