Cayman Island's Christmas Carol Stamps 2018

2018-12-12 Wed

This year’s newest offering from the Cayman Islands Postal Service is a four-stamp collection that went on sale on 23 November 2018 and is based on popular carols and features island-themed scenes.

A Christmas carol is a song or hymn having the lyrics are on the theme of Christmas, and which is traditionally sung on Christmas itself or during the surrounding holiday season. Christmas carols may be regarded as a subset of the broader category of Christmas music. This tradition was depicted on a set of four stamps of Cayman Island.

The 25c stamp highlights the song 'We Three Kings of Orient Are' and depicts gingerbread men wearing Christmas caps on a beach.
The 80c harks to the evocative cadences of 'O Holy Night'. The stamp also features a lit candle in the sand.
The notable carol, 'Away in a Manger' is honoured in the $1.50 stamp which shows a mother of pearl holding a wrapped gift. (Gift exchange is a tradition of this holiday).
And the $2 stamp heralds 'Joy to the World' along with the cheery snowmen. Each stamp has musical notes of the carols in the background.
