Solomon Islands has issued a special 5-ounce .999 fine silver coloured coin with a face value of $10 featuring a field of red poppies in a glass inlay, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. The coin comes in a case with a light source that illuminates the bright colours of the glass inlay.

155.5 grams coin has a diameter of 100 millimetres and a mintage limit of 500 pieces. The coin comes along with a numbered certificate of authenticity and can be purchased for $599.01 Australian by the end of December.

After four long years of bloodshed and battles, World War I came to an end at 11 am on 11th November 1918. Thousands of soldiers were unable to go back home as they sacrificed their lives in the dreaded war. 11th November is observed as Remembrance Day every year to honour the brave souls who left us, fighting for their countries.

Interestingly, by the end of the war, bright red poppies started blooming in the battlefields and these flowers instantly became a symbol of the lives that were lost in the war.
