The 8th President of India, Ramaswamy Venkataraman was born on 4th December 1910. The eminent political personality was grown up in a traditional environment.
He received his primary education in Madras city and finally secured his Masters Degree in Economics from Loyala College, Madras. Later, he enrolled in the High Court of Madras in 1935 and in the Supreme Court in 1951 after he qualified as a lawyer from the Law College of Madras.
Before being elected as the President, Venkataraman served the Governor of the International Monetary Fund, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the Asian Development Bank. He was also a representative to the United Nations General Assembly for 7 years.
Known for dignity and fair play, Venkatraman as President had the distinction of working with four Prime Minister. India Post has issued a Postage Stamp to commemorate a distinguished son of India.
