Among the first stamp issues of Belize, the Royal Wedding Stamps were the most popular ones. Issued on 14th November 1973, the stamps were among the first stamp release of the country.
Belize started as the colony of British Honduras, formally established in the 17th century. British Honduras was granted self-government on 1 January 1964 and issued its last issue as British Honduras at the beginning of 1973.
On 1 June 1973 British Honduras was renamed Belize and the last issue of the year was Royal Wedding issue of two stamps. The stamps were issued with two denominations of 26c and 50c which feature a photograph of HRH Princess Anna and Mark Phillips in a diamond-shaped vignette. The stamp is very simple yet beautiful and is very popular.
