The Perth Mint will release a special 1oz 99.99% pure silver proof 1 dollar coin celebrating the Chinese Lunar Year of Pig, which will begin in 2019. The Chinese Lunar sign repeats itself once in 12 years. People who are born in the Chinese Lunar Year of Pig are considered as honest, generous and calm. Different attributes and qualities are assigned to people who are born in a particular Chinese Lunar Year.
The reverse depicts a pig and four piglets gilded in 24-carat gold, with greenery in the background. Other inscriptions include the Chinese character for ‘pig’, ‘Year of the Pig’ and “P” mintmark of Perth Mint. The obverse features an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, 2019, weight, fineness and denomination. The obverse is designed by Ian Rank-Broadley while the reverse is designed by Aleysha Howarth. A total of 50,000 coins will be issued, out of which, 47,500 will be Silver Gilded Edition. The 31.107 grams coin has a diameter of 45.6 mm and a thickness of 2.6 mm. All coins have a reeded edge.
