Mexican Coin Features Angel Of Independence And Volcanoes
2016-03-18 Fri
Mexico releases a stunning 1 oz coin which is a true reflection of the nation’s identity. It features the two key symbols of Mexico, the Angel of Independence and the Mexican volcanoes, Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl. Moreover, though the illustration is similar to the 2015 release, the new coin is a unique combination of ruthenium and platinum plating minted with sparkling crystal snow printing to achieve the black frozen surface of the coin. The obverse depicts the Mexican National Seal with an eagle on a cactus, holding a serpent in its beak. Other inscriptions include a wreath and the official name of the country in Spanish: "Estados Unidos Mexicanos." Unlike other coins, it does not show a face value but only a weight.
The reverse features a relief of the Winged Victory angel, a historic monument for the Mexican people. The Mexican volcanoes pictured in the background on the reverse memorialise the legend of the two lovers for whom they were named.
