Australia’s Dome Shaped Gold Coin Features a 1626 Map

The Royal Australian Mint released a "Proof 2018 A New Map of the World 1-ounce .9999 fine gold $100" coin in dome shape featuring the Western Hemisphere on a 1626 map. English cartographer John Speed had created the map named "A New and Accurate Map of the World". The map is depicted on the convex reverse. The concave obverse depicts an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.It is the second and final coin to be released in the Terrestrial Gold Dome series. The designs are detailed and have got a classic touch to denote the age of Discovery. The National Library of Australia has showcased the original map.
The coin has a diameter of 38.51 millimetres and a mintage limit of 750 pieces. It can be purchased for $2,795 Australian and comes in an acrylic case at the centre of a wooden display box.
