Muhammad Shah’s Gold Pagoda

Muhammad Shah sat on the Mughal throne in the year 1719 CE and ruled it until his death in the year 1748 CE. He was the grandson of Bahadur Shah and son of Khujista Akhtar. Muhammad Shah sat on the Mughal throne at the age of 17, with the help of Sayyid brother and later he got rid of Sayyid brothers with the help of Asaf Jha I. Muhammad Shah are also refers as Muhammad Shah Rangila.Muhammad Shah ruled Mughal Empire for almost 29 years. The reign of Muhammad Shah had marked the rapid decline of Mughal Empire. It was during his reign that Nadir Shah attacked Delhi and took away the Peacock Throne from him. It was during his reign, the states of Hyderabad and Awadh established themselves as the Independent Kingdoms.
This gold pagoda which was issued by Muhammad Shah weighs around 2.6g. The obverse of this coin is inscribed with the name of ‘Muhammad Shah’. The reverse of the coin is inscribed with the mint name ‘Guti’ with the Hijri Year 1161.
