The Royal Canadian Mint recently released new coloured fine silver coins featuring a Panda at Calgary Zoo’s new Panda Passage exhibit. The Pandas would be at the zoo for the next five years. The two adult pandas were first brought to Toronto Zoo in 2013 as part of a 10-year agreement between Canada and China. Twin cubs were born in Toronto within the first five years.
The reverse features a coloured rendition of a seated giant panda in three-dimensional relief. Other inscriptions include the texts “Friendship”, “Amitie”, the Mandarin translation of the word, “Canada”, “2018”, metal fineness and denomination. The background has a paper-line texture in specimen finish. The coin comes in a folder-style package that contains the coin as a miniature artwork.
