2018-02-15 Thu

The Finnish postal service conducts a postage stamp contest every year. Nine out of the top ten most voted entries in 2017 were based on nature. One of the entries which stood fifth depicted the Finnish Flag.

Stiina Hovi won the contest for her postage stamp named Calm and Tranquil. The image was based on Jari Hakala’s photograph called Archipelago Clouds. The winning design got 10 percent of all votes. Six of Hovi’s designs were a part of the top ten entries as well.

18-year-old Jyvaskyla student, Anselmi Aumo’s image of a sauna building against a sunset backdrop won the second spot. The stamp was designed by Klaus Welp. The image was also appreciated at joint Posti and Ilta-Sanomat competition for the best sauna photograph. It was captured at Midsummer 2015 in Saarijarvi. Aumo’s uncle had a sauna by the lake which looked very beautiful. It inspired him to take a picture. He now loves capturing his holidays, friends and nature images. Some of his works have been featured on online news sites.
