The 2016-dated $20 Fine Silver Coin – Mother Earth issued by the Royal Canadian Mint won the 2018 Krause Publications Coin of the Year award in the Most Inspirational Coin category on 3rd February at the World Money Fair in Berlin, Germany. The competition receives several entries from all around the world. It is judged by an international panel of leading mint officials, medalists, journalists, central bank and museum officials.
Mint Officials stated that they have been producing innovative coins that represent Canadian values. The winning design is loved not only for its artistry and innovation but also for the story it narrates. Mint Officials are delighted for receiving this award.
The 99.99% pure silver coin is designed by Canadian artist Alexandra Lefort. It features a 3D droplet with an inset full-colour image of Earth. The design clearly highlights the importance of water to all living things on earth. The diverse fauna and flora that live in Canada on land, in the sky, and in the water are engraved around the water droplet.
