French too had a lot of colonies all over the world. Let’s see a banknote from the French Pacific Territories of New Caledonia today.
This given 500 Pacific Francs banknote of 1969-1989 was issued by the Institute for Emissions in the Overseas Departments (Institut d'Emission des Départements d'Outre-Mer). The obverse of the note depicts a portrait of Polynesian Fisherman at the Marquesas Islands with a dugout canoe with the sail at centre set against a background of a typical Polynesian landscape – the seacoast! The reverse portrays the portrait of a Marquesan man against the Volcanic Rock Formations at Hienghene.
It’s beautiful, isn’t it?
