On 1st January, the National Bank of Romania released new banknotes and coins with the new Romanian blazon. The reverse of the banknotes with the new blazon has the date “January 1 2018”. The other graphic elements on the new banknotes and coins remain the same.

The new currency will be put into circulation in stages, depending on the demand for monetary flow. All the existing currency will remain legal tender.
