The Philippines recently released new banknotes celebrating the country’s history and natural wonders. The earlier version of the banknotes will still remain legal tender. The new notes will feature a signature of Governor Nestor Espenilla Jr. Officials stated that Philippine banknotes have always symbolised patriotism and bravery.
The obverse of the new P200 bill features the Declaration of Philippine Independence and the opening of the Malolos Congress. On the new P50 bill, a tailpiece in the text reads “Leyte Landing” to “Leyte Landing October 1944” on the lower right corner of the banknote. The image of the Order of Lakandula Medal and the phrase “MEDAL OF HONOR” in the obverse of the new P1,000 has been deleted. There are changes made to the format of the scientific names and the font size of the year mark has been increased on the new P20, P50, P100, P200, P500, and P1,000 notes
