Highlights of COINEX 2017 Pune

Different coins from 500 BC and the Gupta empire to modern 2017 coins in gold, silver, copper, lead and even platinum are showcased at Coinex 2017 which will be held from 15th to 17 December at Sonal Hall, Karve Road, Pune.

One of the philatelists named Sharad Bora is listed in the Limca book of records for collecting more than 1,200 Mahatma Gandhi stamps from 125 countries. He says that stamps feature all kinds of objects and the fascinating hobby should be preserved.

The motive of organisers of Coinex 2017 is spreading knowledge and promoting hobbies. Different bi-metallic and even tri-metallic coins are showcased at the event. One of the numismatists has a collection of wildlife coins, coloured coins, and Olympic lapel pins.

70 frames showcasing different interesting items are displayed at the event. Over 1,200 items will be auctioned by coin dealers from Kolkata, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Rajkot, Vadodara, Bengaluru and Chennai. Many of them would also be up for sale. Information about approximate value, year, history, inscriptions, figures, impressions on the coins offered will be shared by expert numismatists. A lecture on the Indus Valley Civilization by Prabodh Shirvalkar and Amruta Sarkar, from the Department of Archaeology, Deccan College will be held on the last day.
