Athlete Slams Copyright Infringement Case Against Czech Post

2017-12-11 Mon

30-year-old hurdler Zuzana Hejnova from Czech Republic is an Olympic Athlete and two-time world champion who alleged that the Czech Post issued a stamp in 2016 commemorating the Rio Summer Games featuring her picture without taking permission. The 32-koruna commemorative stamp called “Czech Olympic Team” was issued on 22nd June 2016. Czech Post describes the design as showing “a female runner jumping over a hurdle.”

Hejnova is seeking 1 million koruna in the case and claims that the image was created using her 2012 photo from the London Summer Olympics. The Czech Post however states that the stamp features an anonymous hurdler. If Hejnova wins the claim, she would donate it to “athletic preparation for children.” She won a bronze medal at the 2012 London Games for the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.38 seconds.
