Rare 1896 Puerto Rico 5 Pesos to be Auctioned

A rare and interesting Puerto Rico 1896 5 Pesos note will be offered by Paper Money Auction at New York International Sale on 12th January at the Grand Hyatt in New York City.Issued by Banco Espanol de Puerto Rico, printed by the American Bank Note Company, the unique note is one of the very few which belong to Series D. The note features beautiful ink tones and detail for the grade. It is the first one of be offered by Paper Money Auctions after many years and is the finest of its type.
The note features Queen Regent Maria Cristina and an allegorical child. Out of the different dates found on these notes, the ones dated November 3rd, 1896 are rarer. The ones featuring a “MAYAGUEZ” stamp at center is very common, and the ones which come without a stamp or cancellation is very rare. The offered note features staple holes which are commonly found in ABNC0-issued notes of that era.
