Prince’s Company of Carabiniers Honoured on Coins of Monaco

France gives military protection to Monaco while Prince’s Company of Carabiniers is assigned the responsibility to protect the king and his palace. The latest commemorative €2 coin from Monaco, released on 13th November, is dedicated to the Carabiniers of the Prince.The obverse features a Carabinier with the Palace of Monaco in the background. Other inscriptions include MONACO, Mint mark, mint master mark, the years 1817–2017 and CARABINIERS DU PRINCE. The 12 stars of the European flag are featured on the outer ring. The 8.5 grams ringed-bimetallic coin with a copper-nickel core and copper-aluminum-nickel ring has a mintage limit of 15,000. The reverse design features a map of the European Union. Proof examples are available for €239 each.
