Samoa’s Year of the Dog dollar by Royal Australian Mint

The Royal Australian Mint produced a 2018 Year of the Dog coin for Samoa depicting a Chinese motif. The design is unique and is created by the modern Chinese artist Zhou Shaohua who is known for traditional ink painting.A series of 12 ink-on-paper works called “The Chinese Zodiac” was completed by the artist in 2009. The coin features one of these works called Dog.
The obverse of the 9.81 grams Uncirculated aluminum-bronze dollar features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the Samoan coat of arms. The mintage limit is 88,888 pieces and each coin costs $18.
