Latest Irish Coin Celebrates 350th Birth Anniversary of Jonathan Swift

The 350th birth anniversary of Ireland’s famous author Jonathan Swift was celebrated with the release of special commemorative €15 .925 Sterling Silver Proof coins by the Central Bank of Ireland at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin. The coin features an image from his famous book Gulliver’s Travels. The mintage limit is only 2000 pieces and the coin can be bought for €60 on collectorcoins.ie from 7th December. The coin design was selected through an open competition. Polish artist Sebastian Mikolajczak won the contest and his design features Gulliver standing on an opened book, Gulliver’s Travels.Born on 30th November 1667, the Irish satirist and essayist Jonathan Swift was the Dean of St. Patrick’s for more than 30 years. He died in 1745 at the age of 78 and donated all his earnings to the first psychiatric hospital in Ireland, St. Patricks Hospital. The hospital offers its services to people even today.
