2017-11-29 Wed
Signatures of Steven T. Mnuchin who is the new Treasury secretary and Jovita Carranza who is new US Treasurer are featured in the first Series 2017 $1 Federal Reserve notes. The new notes were revealed at BEP on 15th November and will enter circulation in December. Mnuchin’s signature is readable on the new note and Jack Lew’s signature was unreadable in the 2009 Series notes. Mnuchin’s is not printed in cursive but in block letters. Mnuchin wanted a clean signature for the new dollar bill. The proposed redesigns of the $5, $10, and $20 notes were not discussed at the event. The $10 Federal Reserve note will be redesigned next only by 2026. BEP Director Leonard R. Olijar had said in November 2016 that the new $10 note should be ready for production and the design concepts for the $5 and $20 notes should be finalised by 18th August 2020. The date marks the centennial of the signing of the 19th Amendment. He also said that BEP and Federal Reserve will fasten the process so that all three notes with required security features could enter circulation as soon as possible.
