Rare Banknotes Offered at the 2017 Champion Macau Auction

Rare banknotes and coins graded by PMG and NGC respectively were offered by the November Champion Macau Auction on 26th November at the Kam Pak Community centre. The event was jointly sponsored by the Macau Numismatic Society.

A CHINA 1899 Hupeh Government Mint (7 Mace 2 Candareens), One Dollar (Zhu-581), Pick S2135, graded PMG Choice EF45NE, from the Arthur Coole Collection had an estimated value of $ 30,000-60,000. The vertical format banknote does not have any punch cancellations. The obverse features two dragons while the orange coloured reverse features a silver dragon dollar. This beautiful banknote was not listed in the Standard Catalogue. It earlier belonged to the Walter Loeb Collection.

A JAPAN 1913 Bank of Japan 100 Yen Specimen, Payable In Gold, depicting Japanese block characters, graded PMG AU50 from the Norman Jacobs Collection had an estimated value of $15,000-20,000. The note features a Red Mi-hon overprint in upper right corner of both obverse and reverse. It is also perforated in centre.
