Latvia released a special postage stamp and envelope featuring the Roland Garros tennis champion Jelena Ostapenko who won the French Open recently. The stamp is the first in its series to celebrate a Latvian sportsperson. 50,000 postage stamps, worth €1.42 will be released along with 1,500 special envelopes.

Other sportsmen who could be featured on stamps include two-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist and current WTA Latvian No.2 Anastasija Sevastova, and Kristaps Porzingis of the National Basketball Association's New York Knicks. The series honours all personalities who have been a national pride bringing the name of Latvia into the world. 20-year-old Ostapenko became the first Latvian player to win a Grand Slam in singles, defeating Simona Halep in the final. She is currently ranked World No.7, which is the highest-ever ranking for a singles tennis player from Latvia.
