500th Anniversary of Reformation Celebrated on Vatican Stamps

The Holy See’s Philatelic Office of Vatican issued a special 1.00 euro postage stamp, to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation on 31st October.

A Crucified Jesus is shown in the foreground while the background features a view of the city of Wittenberg. Martin Luther kneels and holds the Bible while Philipp Melanchthon holds the first official public presentation of the principles of Protestantism - Augsburg Confession.

A 2.55 euro special stamp to celebrate the 450th birth anniversary of St. Francis de Sales will also be released. Both the stamps will be released for public use from 23rd November.
