United Nations Celebrates Paris Stamp Fair on Souvenir Sheet

2017-10-30 Mon

The 71st Salon Philatelique d’Automne (autumn philatelic fair) in Paris will be celebrated on a special souvenir sheet released by UN Postal Administration on 9th November. The issue date will also coincide with the first day of this four-day event held at the Espace Champerret Hall A, 6 rue Jean Oestreicher, Paris.

Just like other souvenir sheets released by UNPA, this one too will feature three stamps in different currencies - United States dollars for the post office at U.N. headquarters in New York City; Swiss francs for the post office at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland; and euros for the post office at the Vienna International Center in Vienna, Austria.

Antoine Coysevox’s sculpture Fame Riding Pegasus at the Tuileries Garden will be featured on $1.15 stamp. A fountain from the Place de la Concorde will be featured on the 2-franc stamp, and a gargoyle from the Notre Dame Cathedral is depicted on the €1.70 features.

The selvage showcases the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre pyramid, the ancient Greek sculpture Winged Victory of Samothrace from Louvre, and the Arc de Triomphe. The imagery is depicted in an Art Deco style. The sheet was printed using metallic and hexachrome ink.

A similar souvenir sheet featuring Australian marsupials was released on 30th March for the Melbourne 2017 Federation of Inter-Asian Philately; another one depicting the text from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was released on 27 October for UN Expo 17 held in Bellefonte, Pa.
