An ultra-high relief 2-ounce piedfort Proof .999 fine silver $10 coin featuring Queen Victoria has been released for the British Virgin Islands by Pobjoy Mint.

Princess Victoria of Kent was born in 1819. She was the daughter of the German-born Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld and Prince Edward Duke of Kent and Strathearn. Soon after she was born, her father died. The young princess was brought up separately by her oppressive mother and her mother’s lover, Sir John Conroy. She was the fifth in line for the throne. But a series of family deaths led to her coronation at Westminster Abbey in 1838 at the age of 18. Apart from being the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, she later went on to become the “Empress of India”. Queen Victoria reigned for 63 years and died in 1901. She is the second longest reigning British monarch after Queen Elizabeth II.

The obverse of the coin features Queen Elizabeth II. The obverse features a young effigy of Victoria in extra relief to highlight the complexity of design and finish. The 62.21 grams coin has a mintage limit of 650 pieces and can be purchased for $199.
